To truly experience the culture of a place, you must experience its local cuisine.

Trinidadians take their food very seriously. It represents their history and diversity.

Their cuisine has African, Indian, Portuguese and Chinese influence since labourers from all these places were brought over to the country and had to start their lives over.

We suggest 3 popular dishes that you must try when there:
Doubles: A popular breakfast food, they’re made from 2 pieces of fried dough filled with curried chickpeas. Make sure to let your vendor know if you want to add pepper sauce and make it light, medium or super spicy.

Pelau: A preferably lunch meal, this Creole meal is somewhat of a rice bowl with chicken or beef, pigeon peas, coconut milk and scotch bonnet pepper.

Mango Chow: Eaten with fingers, this dish is a popular snack. Unripened mangoes mixed with lime, scotch bonnet pepper, garlic and shado beni, it is a savory way to eat mangoes.

There are many other dishes of different history that we think you should try when there.
