Maybe the world is not coming to an end.

People are living longer, freer and happier lives and even though our problems are impressively scary, we have the solutions in the Englightenment ideal of reason and science.

Cognitive scientist Steven Pinker urges readers of his book “Enlightenment Now” to step back from discouraging headlines and apolcalypse stories and instead, read into data.

In seventy-five awe-inspiring graphs, he shows that life, health, safety, peace and happiness are on the rise worldwide.

All of which is not the result of some cosmic force, but is the gift of the conviction that science can enhance human lives.

The book offers intellectual depth and literary flair.
