Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is a self-narrated story of a middle-aged man who goes on a motorcycling trip with his son, accompanied by an adult couple.

They take back roads and sleep overnight in motels or camps.

The narrator gives detailed descriptions of the nature he sees around and absorbs.

It is a book to carry while you’re on a trip yourself, or when you find yourself at a crossroads in life.

Most of the book focuses on the topic of quality. Quality cannot be defined rationally, but can be observed in things when it is there.

It is the difference between someone who cares and someone who does not.

The book tells us that we cannot understand the truth about life with a solely rational mind.

Through the love of another person, or in the experience of nature can we access truths that cannot be broken down rationally.
